Huangpu River, the most important shipping artery of Shanghai, wriggles like an undulating muddy dragon from the mouth of the Yangtze River to the East China Sea. It joins 29 kilometers (18 miles) north of downtown Shanghai and divides Shanghai into two parts, east and west.

The Pudong New Area is located on the eastern banks of the Huangpu River. As a

young area,it symbolizes everything that is new and exciting in Shanghai. The Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone is located in the heart of Pudong where found the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the Jin Mao Building, Shanghai International Convention Center, and many other attractions.

The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, with its soaring height of 468 meters boldly characterizes the Lujiazui cityscape. It should be noted that it ranks the tallest in Asia and the third tallest in the world. It also represents the state-of-art in TV tower design, reflecting the progress of the modern science and technology. The inner tower is a recreational palace, while the Shanghai Municipal History Museum is located in the tower's pedestal. The large lower sphere has a futuristic space city and a fabulous sightseeing hall. The five smaller spheres are a hotel that contains twenty-five elegant rooms and lounges. The pearl at the very top of the tower contains shops, restaurants, (including a rotating restaurant) and a sightseeing floor.

Jin Mao Building, an 88-story skyscraper with 3 stories underground, is up till now the tallest building in China and the fourth tallest in the world. The structural profile of the building originated in the oriental ancient pagoda, a style which represents the original national form of design as well as the occidental modern style of building. 3F to 50F is large space of office block without column. 51F and 52F are used for mechanic and electronic equipment. From 53F to 87F boasts the highest deluxe five-star hotel --the Grand Hyatt Hotel Shanghai. The middle hall with a height of 152m, diameter of 27m and 28 winding corridors will make you feel as if you were in a time-space tunnel.

The Observation Deck on 88F is the highest and biggest Observation Deck of China.

Located along the Huangpu River and regarded as a symbol of Shanghai, the Bund (the street here is called Zhongshan Road East 1) shows off Shanghai's outstanding foreign buildings, most of which were erected before 1937, when the world's greatest banks and trading empires established their bases here. Not designed by the same architect nor built at the same time, these blocks of buildings harmonize in architectural tone and the outlines were treated coordinately.

Starts from the Bund in the east, totaling 5-km long, Nanjing Road enjoys the reputation of No.1 Commercial Street in China. It has clusters of a wide variety of shops from those that are centuries old, to special ones and modern malls. The eastern section of Nanjing Road has been turned into a pedestrian walkway, where visitors can do their shopping in the malls or specialty shops alongside, have a taste of different styles of food or local delicacies or take a leisurely walk to spend their free afternoons.

Shanghai Museum, a seven-storied modern edifice and a cultural landmark on People's Square, is a work of art itself. Its shape is modeled on an ancient giant Chinese bronze tripod, with a round top section to symbolize heaven and a square base representing the earth, implying the Chinese traditional expression of "a round heaven and a square earth". In the building about 120,000 items of cultural relicscultural relics are displayed in turns in its 12 cultural

relics are displayed in turns in its 12 exhibition halls. The exhibitions consist of 9 major categories, i.e., the bronze ware, sculpture, pottery and porcelain ware, calligraphy and paintings, jade and ivory ware, seals, coins, Chinese furniture of the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and arts and crafts and costumes of Chinese ethnic groups. Among the exhibits many are rare and precious pieces.

Shanghai Xin Tian Di is unique because of its concept of construction. It retains the antique walls, tiles and exterior of the Shikumen housing of old Shanghai. On the other hand, its interior embodies a totally different world of international gallery, bars and cafes, boutiques or theme restaurants. When you walk into Xin Tian Di, you will get the taste both of Shanghai in the 1920's and the sonic modern lifestyle of urbanites of the 21st century.

Located in the center of Shanghai's Old City, Yuyuan Garden is a place of peace and comfort in the heart of bustling Shanghai. It was constructed in the period of Ming Dynasty from 1559 and completed in 1577 and is one of the few remaining old tourist sites in Shanghai. Built in traditional Chinese style with numerous rock and tree garden areas, ponds, dragon-lined walls and numerous doorways and zigzagging bridges separating the various garden areas and pavilions.

Jade Buddha Temple was completed in 1882, specially built to enshrine two jade statues of Sakyamuni which were brought back from Burma by a Buddhist priest. Later, the temple was partly  destroyed   by   fire and in 1918 a new temple was built on the present site. The most famous white-jade statue of the Seated Buddha is in the Jade Buddha Chamber.
It is a jade statue of 2 meters high, decorated with jewels, weighing 1,000 kilograms.
